Abstract

Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases are the world leading killer disease. The factors that make the occurrence of cardiovascular disease are more probable. Electrocardiograms are interpreted by Physicians and Nurses in many specialties, including cardiology, internal medicine, family practice, and emergency medicine. Interpretative skills vary among specialists.
Ensuring correct recording of ECG is imperative on the part of Nurses and technicians. Because it helps the Physician and Nurse to correctly interpret recordings and take appropriate measures. Nurses being a member of health team should be able to interpret ECG finding up to her extent of practice needed in clinical settings. The aim of the present study was to improve the knowledge regarding ECG interpretation, evaluative experimental one group pre-test post-test design was conducted in 30 nurses of selected wards of sri Ramakrishna hospital, Coimbatore. Demographic profile, knowledge, practice, attitude questionnaire used for data collection. data analysis was done using using descriptive and inferential statistics. The mean of pre-test level of knowledge was 6.43 with a standard deviation 1.95 .The mean post-test level of knowledge was 9.46 with the standard deviation 1.71 calculated “t” value was 2.92 which was greater Than the table value at 00.5 level of significance The mean pretest level attitude of 1.84 and the mean of posttest level of attitude was 7.7 with the standard deviation of 1.74 calculated “t” value of 00.5 level of signification standard deviation of 2.65 .The mean of posttest level of practice was 11.03 with a standard deviation of 2.25 calculated “t” value was 5.47 which way greater. This shows that the interpretation has influenced the level of knowledge, attitude and practice and hence, the researcher hypothesis. “There will be a significant different in the level of knowledge, attitude and practice regarding interpretation of ECG before and after administration of structured teaching programme of the staff nurses. The study concluded that Structured teaching programme was effective on knowledge, Interpretation of Electrocardiogram (ECG) among critical care nurses, at selected wards of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, Coimbatore.
