Effect of Structured Teaching Program (STP) on Knowledge Regarding Cardiotocography (CTG) Monitoring Among Nursing Students

Abstract


Labour is considered as one of the most memorable incidents of life period for each and every mother. The assessment of fetal well-being and mother is of paramount importance as far as labour is concerned, and here comes the role of cardiotocography (CTG) monitoring. Being future nurses, the students of nursing should have thorough knowledge and skill regarding CTG. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the effectiveness of STP on knowledge regarding CTG monitoring and to find out the association between the selected demographic variables and their knowledge score. A pre experimental one group pre- and post-test research design was employed. Fifty pre final year BSc nursing students of Vivekananda College of Nursing were included in the study. Subjects were prearranged on the basis of total enumeration sampling technique. Interview schedule was used to collect socio demographic data whereas questionnaire was used to assess knowledge of the subjects. The results revealed that the STP was statistically effective in improving the knowledge score with a mean post-test knowledge score of 15.14 as compared to the mean pre-test score of 6.68 (t value = 19.56, P < 0.01). To conclude, the enhancement of knowledge Score, 15.14 indicates that STP was efficacious in improving the knowledge of pre final BSc nursing students regarding CTG monitoring.
