Aerobic Exercise Prescription in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients Using Six-Minute Walk Test: A Narrative Review

Shahin Naz Jamali

Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease that has significant pulmonary effect, leads to airflow limitation. The main cause of COPD is cigarette smoking. Other than that, there are various causes that results in COPD. In this, various respiratory parts get affected pathologically. chest X-ray, spirometry and exercise tests are used to diagnose it. Six-minute walk test (6 MWT) is one of the very reliable parameters to assess and exercise tolerance in COPD patients. The six-minute walk test can easily administer to the patients. So, it considers as a good tool for exercise testing and prescription in COPD patients.
