Knowledge Regarding Safety Measures to be Adapted by Adolescents during Disaster

Abstract


Disaster is a disturbance of the functioning of a society reasoning a worldwide or environmental loss, which exceeds the capability of the affected society to cope using its own resources. Every year millions of people are affected by man-made cause and natural disaster. 80 students in age group (15–18 years) of were selected from Beersheba Senior Secondary School of Haldwani by Purposive sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire was developed to assess knowledge, identify safety measures and the association between knowledge and socio-demographic variables. Chi-square test performed to determine the association (92%) adolescents have inadequate knowledge regarding the knowledge of safety measures during disaster. It was concluded that the knowledge should be improved by educating the adolescents regarding safety measures to be adapted during disaster.
