Effectiveness of video assisted instructions regarding preventions of home fire accidents among mothers of under five children in SR puthoor Madurai.

Abstract


Objectives: The main objectives were to evaluate the effectiveness of the video assisted instruction in improving the knowledge of prevention of home fire accidents. To associate the post test level of knowledge with selected socio demographic variables. Conceptual Framework: The conceptual framework for this study was based on Ludwig von Bertalanffy’s. Design: This study employed a pre-experimental one group pre-test and post test design. Patients were selected using purposive sampling method. Setting of the Study: The study was conducted in SR puthoor Madurai. Subjects: A total of 60 subjects were included in the study. Intervention: The selected 60 subjects were given Video assisted instructions on knowledge and attitude regarding prevention of home fire accidents for 30minutes. Main outcome measure: Pre and post-test were conducted by using structured knowledge and modified cause, prevention and first aid management of home fire accidents before and after intervention with video assisted instruction. Findings: Before video assisted instruction In that 38 (63.3%) were poor and 22 (36.7%) were average in knowledge, No good or excellent but after intervention level of knowledge 23(38,3%) were good and 37(61.7%) were excellent in knowledge, No poor or average. The calculated‘t’ value for knowledge and attitude (69.97) and p value is less than 0.0001 which was highly significant also there was no association between level of knowledge regarding preventions of home fire accidents among mothers of under five children with selected demographical variables. . When compared to number of children, religion, occupation, type of family, care taker of the family, diet habit. However, significant association was found between level of knowledge regarding preventions of home fire accidents among mothers of under five children with their age, educational status of mothers, family monthly income, type of house, source of fire for cooking. Conclusion: The study concluded that video assisted instruction regarding prevention of home fire accidents is a highly feasible intervention and produce statistically significant improvement in knowledge and attitude.
