A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structure Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Intravenous Cannulation Management and, It’s Complication among Staff Nurses in Selected Hospital Mahesana City

Abstract


Background -Intravenous cannulation is a method in which a cannula is located inside a vein to deliver venous admittance. Venous access allows sampling of blood, as well as administration of fluids, medication, parental nutrition, chemotherapy, and blood products. Intravenous therapy is one of the most commonly achieved events in hospitalized patients, it leftovers vulnerable to infections and noninfectious difficulty. Venipuncture is the most commonly performed invasive procedures in hospitals. IV cannulation is the second most invasive or procedure for patients in hospital. Today 80-95% of all hospitalized patients receive IV’s in one form or another. Obtaining peripheral intravenous assess is an essential skill for all health care providers at Auckland city hospital to define the utilization of the intravascular devices and to measure the prevalence of infectious complications from this device. 376 out of 830 patients had intravenous devices and 25 of them had either confirmed infection or showed sign of infection the study concluded that the health workers on going education to ensure prompt removal of devices that are not required for patient care. Objectives of the Study: 1. To assess the knowledge regarding measurement of complication of IV infusion among staff nurse before structure teaching programme. 2. To assess the knowledge regarding complication and its management of IV infusion among staff nurse structure teaching programme. 3. To associate the knowledge with selected demographic variable. Material and Methods¬: Data was collected from 60 sample with structured questionnaire to assess the Knowledge Regarding Intravenous Cannulation Management And, It’s Complication Among staff nurses. Quantitative research approach was used for my study and used quantitative experimental one group pre test post test group design. Result: the study shows that 27% of the staff nurses belonged to the age group of 21 -30 years, 23% of the staff nurses were GNM education. All the staff nurses are literate. Majority (29%) had an experience 0-5 years. Majority (43%) of the staff nurses not attended seminar related to intravenous cannulation. In the pretest 22(36%) had poor knowledge & 38(63%) had average knowledge. Regarding intravenous cannulation management and its complication. In the post test 16(26%) had average knowledge & 44(73%) had good knowledge regarding intravenous cannulation management and its complication. Since the chi square (calculated) value is less than chi square (table) value, there is no significant association between age and knowledge of the staff nurses. Conclusion: This clearly indicates that the level of knowledge in experimental group in the post-test phase is higher than in the pre-test phase. This show that structure teaching programme was proved effective in increasing the knowledge level of sample regarding IV cannulation complication and its management in group.
