Capgras Syndrome

Abstract


A rare delusional disorder where the patient believes that a friend or relative has been replaced by a double or imposter. They view themselves as a double. The disorder is often associated with schizophrenia, some sort of brain injury or damage and neurodegenerative disorder. Neurological theories have been postulated for the causes of Capgras syndrome. The patient believes that he/she is in the world of impersonators, double delusions, paranoid, prosopagnosia, violence, depression, anxiety, auditory, tactile or olfactory hallucinations, agitation and aggressive behavior. Treating the schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and other underlying causes to improve the prognosis of Capgras syndrome.
