A. Antony Jemila

Abstract

Health systems are an essential element of a healthy and equitable society. Nurses are the key, heart and backbone of any health system providing education, information, comfort, and hope and delivering care. According to WHO health is the enjoyment of highest attainable standard of well being. When health is viewed as a human right, there is a demand on us to take action and a responsibility to enable access to a health system. According to new data released by the World Health Organization on 30.4.2018, nearly 61% of deaths in India are now attributed to non-communicable diseases, According to World Bank half of the world lacks access to essential health services, 100 million still pushed into extreme poverty because of health expenses, even though numerous principles were formulated to dispense universal health services. On average 7 .40% of the world’s population lack Social Protection. The conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age have a predominant effect on the burdens of illness and the premature loss of life. It is here that nursing can have a profound effect on enabling a human rights perspective of health. Thus nurses can be a voice to lead by supporting people centered approach till their voices are heard in influencing policy, planning and provision.
