A study to assess the clinical challenges among undergraduate nursing students in selected college of Mohali

Abstract


Clinical education is the important part of a nursing curriculum that needs a close relationship between theoretical and clinical areas. Clinical experience with learning clinical activities is helpful to link theory and practice to solve vital problem of health care, and to provide optimum care with critical thinking. The purpose of the study was to identify the clinical challenges among undergraduate nursing students in clinical learning environment. A quantitative research approach was used. The data were collected from 2nd, 3rd and 4th year B.Sc. nursing students as first-year nursing students were not able to justify clinical learning environment. Convenient sampling technique was used to select a sample of 120 study subjects (N = 120). Self-reported questionnaire was used to collect the data. The study reveals that majority of the undergraduate nursing students found various challenges in their clinical settings. Hence the study concluded that a majority of nursing students found many challenges related to staff nurses and clinical environment, whereas a minority of the found challenges related to clinical instructors.
