Nurses' image has always been an apprehension for those in the profession. It is high time that the nurses get their due space in the society. The intent is to elevate the position of nursing profession worldwide by investing in all aspects of nursing. Nursing today is no longer limited to giving injections and offering bedpans. The role of nurse is changing as the environment around us is progressing day by day. Achieving sustainable development goals need lot of active participation from the nurses’ side by being involved in primary prevention and acting as patients’ advocate. Round-the-clock presence, observation skills, and vigilance of nurses allow physicians to make better diagnoses and propose better treatments.  A nurse saves many lives everyday by vigilant observation of warning signs like cardiac arrest and respiratory failure and administering prompt primary intervention. Nurses have to participate in research activities and get involved in policy making so their rights are protected. A modern day nurse is a well-read human being equipped with all technical and leadership skills. Strong nursing leadership is critical in today’s view if the vision of a transformed health care system is to be realized.
