Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Teachers play very important role in early diagnosis of minor injuries, giving reference to medical personal and also promotion of first aid measures among children in their schools. School children will spend their more time with respective school teachers. First aid is the immediate and temporary care given to an injured or sick person until the services of a physician can be obtained. Proper immediate care is sometimes necessary to save life, but knowledge of what not to do as well as what to do is vitally important. Methods: A pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test research design was used in this study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample and the sample size was 50 primary school teachers. Data was collected by using structured knowledge questionnaire. Analysis was done by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The result showed overall pre-test mean score of primary school teacher that was 13.81 (SD = 4.216) and post-test mean score was 29.86 (SD = 2.869). The comparison of pre and post-test knowledge of primary school teacher reveals that the overall improvement mean was (15.24) with standard deviation (1.35). Paired‘t’ test value was computed to evaluate the structured teaching program regarding first aid measures. The obtained‘’ test value was (16.944), which was found greater than the table value (2.045). This is indicating the effectiveness of structured teaching program. Association was done between demographic variables and post-test level of knowledge by using chi-square (χ2) test. The calculated chi-square values were less than the table values which indicated that there was no significant association between the demographic variables such as age, gender, religion, educational qualification, experience, source of information regarding first aid measures.
