Abstract

Despite huge efforts taken to increase the awareness of breast cancer among women still it was observed to be inadequate. This baseline study was aimed to assess the awareness and attitude of 30 Entrepreneur Development Project (EDP) women staff aged between 20 and 55 years working in Community Development Project at Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. Using convenient sampling technique subjects were selected, and a structured questionnaire was used to assess the awareness and Likert scale was used to assess the attitude towards breast cancer. The finding showed that 53.3% had adequate awareness, 26.6% had moderately adequate awareness, and 20% had inadequate awareness on breast cancer, and 73% had positive attitude and 27% had negative attitude towards breast cancer. There was a statistically significant association between level of awareness with the mode of information obtained on breast cancer (p<0.05). There was a positive correlation between awareness and attitude (r=0.88, p=1.349).
