Effectiveness of Health Talk on Knowledge Regarding Prevention of Osteoporosis Among Rural Women

Abstract

Osteoporosis is the disease which characterized by reduction of bone density and changes in the bone structure. One of the common problems of post-menopausal women is osteoporosis. The objectives of the study were To assess the pretest and posttest knowledge regarding prevention of osteoporosis among rural women, To assess the effectiveness of health talk on prevention of osteoporosis among rural women, To compare the pretest and posttest knowledge regarding prevention of osteoporosis among rural women, To associate the effectiveness of health talk on knowledge regarding prevention of osteoporosis among rural women with selected demographic variable. Quasi experimental design one group pretest, posttest only was used for the study. The study was conducted among Rural women’s of seliamedu in Pudhucherry.30 rural women in seliamedu were selected based on the convenient sampling technique. The data was collected. The result showed that out of 30 samples in Pretest 29(96.6%) Patients had Inadequate Knowledge, 1(3.33%) Patients had moderately adequate Knowledge and none of the Patient had Adequate Knowledge. And in Posttest 4(13.3%) Patients had adequate Knowledge, 22(73.3%) Patients had moderately adequate Knowledge and 4(13.3%) Patient had Inadequate Knowledge. In comparison of pretest and posttest level of knowledge data analysis shows high level of significance at p<0.05 level. There was no significant association between pretest and posttest knowledge with selected demographic variables. In pretest majority of the rural women had moderate knowledge. After health talk the respondents indicated significant increase in knowledge regarding prevention of osteoporosis. So, there is an increase need for awareness program and periodical educational sessions for rural women’s regarding prevention of osteoporosis.
