Text Neck Syndrome

Abstract


As the usage of electronic devices like smart phone, tablet or a laptop increases, new development syndrome also increases. Text neck is a repetitive stress injury caused due to more cranes in neck. It leads to early arthritis, spinal misalignment, spinal degeneration, disc compression, disc herniation, nerve damage, etc. that can be a result of text neck, which can be easily cured or prevented by taking immediate breaks from the mobile device, like every 20 minutes or so. Constant look-up brings the neck back into its original neutral position. Simple lifestyle changes greatly help in alleviating the muscular pain and discomfort of the text neck before the condition worsens. Other substitutes are to hold the mobiles/electronic devices higher, so alignment with the eyes and the stress on the neck muscles will be reduced. Doing posture-focused exercises, such as Pilates and yoga, include Salamba, Matsyasana Tadasana, Adho Mukha Svanasana, Shalabhasana, Jatharasana and Parivartanasana, which aim at gaining the right posture and reduce the stress on the neck and shoulder.
