Shaken Baby Syndrome: A Review
Abstract
Shaken baby syndrome is a form of child abuse that can result in permanent brain damage or death but it can be preventable. Risk factors including the parents or caregivers more likely to forcefully shake a baby and cause shaken baby syndrome, Unrealistic expectations of babies, Young or single parenthood and Stress. Symptoms includes Breathing problems, Poor eating, Vomiting, Seizures, Paralysis and Coma. Prevention: It can be prevented by bringing awareness programme for caregivers about the dangers of shaken baby syndrome. Mass group education in community areas. Awareness through social medias/TV and newspapers & Nurses have to educate the parents of the children’s at OPD/IPD of the hospital.
