A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Dysmenorrhea and Its Management among B.Sc. Nursing Students

Abstract


The purpose of the study is to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding dysmenorrhea and its management among B.Sc. Nursing students, with a view to improve the knowledge regarding management of dysmenorrhea. A total of 60 1 st and 2 nd year B.Sc. Nursing students were selected by using convenient sampling technique. Pre-experimental design, one group pre and post-test only design was adopted for this study, structured questionnaire were used to assess the knowledge, and structured teaching programme was administered for 30 min on dysmenorrhea and its management to improve the student’s knowledge. The results showed that in pretest knowledge scores, about 25 (42%) had inadequate knowledge, 28 (46%) had moderate knowledge, and 07 (12%) had adequate knowledge. In post-test knowledge of the B.Sc. Nursing students, 06 (10%) had inadequate knowledge, 14 (23%) had moderate knowledge and 40 (67%) had adequate knowledge. The study concludes that the structured teaching programme was effective in improving the knowledge on Dysmenorrhea and its management among B.Sc. Nursing students.
