A Study on Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Premenstrual Syndrome and Its Management Among Adolescent Girls in Selected Schools of Tarn Taran

Abstract


Adolescent period is one of the crucial period in adolescent girls. in this period. There are lot of physiological changes that are arise during the menstruation in the body among adolescent girls. If left untreated it may lead to variety of complication, so identifying them at early stage and treating them would reduce the chance of premenstrual syndrome. The aim of the study is to improve the knowledge regarding premenstrual syndrome and its management among adolescent girls in selected school of Tarn Taran.
Research approach was used is quasi experimental research design. One group pretest and posttest. The target population for the study were adolescent girls. The total samples under the study were 60 adolescent girls. The data was collected by structured knowledge questionnaire which was designed to assess the knowledge regarding premenstrual syndrome and its management among adolescent girls. The result was described by descriptive and inferencial statistics.
Finding related to the assessment of pretest knowledge regarding premenstrual syndrome and its management shows that 1(1.66%) had adequate knowledge and 24(40%) had moderate knowledge, 35(58.3%) had inadequate knowledge regarding premenstrual syndrome and its management. Findings related to assessment of posttest knowledge regarding premenstrual syndrome and its management among adolescent girls shows that adolescent girls had adequate 16(26.6%) and 36(60%) had moderate knowledge, 8(13.3%) had inadequate knowledge. Findings related to effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding premenstrual syndrome and its management among adolescent girls depicts that, enhancement between the pretest was 7.8 and obtained paired ‘t’ test value was 17.2, it was highly significant at level < 0.05. This shows the effectiveness of structured teaching programme. Chi square test revealed that there was statistically significant association between knowledge of premenstrual syndrome and its management among adolescent girls with demographic variables.
