Fetus in Fetu – The Survival

Dhivagar. S

Abstract

Fetus in fetu (FIF) is a rare uncommon pathology that results due to abnormal embroyogeneis in a diamniotic, monochorionic twin pregnancy. It occurs 1 in 500,000 live births. Due to unequal division of blastocoele results in monozygotic, monochorionic, and diamniotic twins of unequal sizes following which the smaller twin encases into the normally developing twin. The major presenting complaint is a palpable abdominal mass, predominantly in upper abdomen. The management of FIF is complete excision, allows confirmation of the diagnosis and lowers the risk of malignant recurrence.
