A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge regarding selected Gynecological Problems among Adolescent Girls (18–24 years)

Abstract


A descriptive study was conducted to assess the knowledge regarding gynecological problems among adolescent girls (18–24 years) studying in S.K.S.S. College of Nursing, Sarabha, Ludhiana, Punjab. Data was collected from 150 adolescent girls (18–24 years) studying in of S.K.S.S. College of Nursing, by using the stratified purposive sampling technique with the self-structured questionnaire on gynecological problems among young girls. The overall result of study was 79% of adolescent girls had average knowledge, 20% had good knowledge, only 1% had poor knowledge but none of them had excellent knowledge about gynecological problems. On basis of data analysis, result showed that 74% of the sample had average knowledge about dysmenorrhea and 21% had good knowledge, 5% had poor knowledge about dysmenorrhea and about polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) 69% of the sample had average knowledge, 22% had good knowledge and only 8% had poor knowledge, about the urinary tract infections 60% of the sample had good knowledge, 35% had average knowledge and only 3% had poor knowledge. Conclusion of study was that the majority of adolescent girls had average knowledge regarding polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), Dysmenorrhea and good knowledge regarding urinary tract infection.
