The Basic Physiology of ECG: A Review

Gyanendra Kumar Gupta, Gagan Devi

Abstract

The electrocardiogram i.e. ECG, is one of the initial tests done in patients suspected of having a cardiac disorder. Accurate detection of cardiac pathology events is an important part of electrocardiogram evaluation and subsequent correct treatment of patients. An electrocardiogram reflects the electrical activity of the heart and gives a lot of information about heart function required for the diagnosis of various diseases. Despite its widespread use, many people struggle to master the basics of ECG interpretation, and an error in interpretation can lead to misdiagnosis and delays in appropriate treatment. For the purpose of analysis, it is a must to understand the basic physiology of normal ECG.
