A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Information Booklet on Knowledge Regarding Endometriosis Treatment among Married Women in Selected Hospital, Bangalore

Abstract


Introduction and objective: Endometriosis is a common, yet poorly understood disease. The researcher felt that there is a lack of knowledge regarding endometriosis treatment among married women and felt the needs to give awareness among married women. If the patients gain adequate knowledge about endometriosis treatment, they can prevent themselves from being a victim of endometriosis and know how to manage and prevent when it occurs. Therefore, the investigator felt a strong desire to assess the knowledge to provide information regarding endometriosis treatment in married women. The objectives were to assess the pre-test knowledge on endometriosis treatment among married women; to evaluate the effectiveness of information booklet on knowledge of endometriosis treatment among married women; and to determine the association between post-test knowledge scores on endometriosis treatment with selected demographic variables. Methodology: Evaluative research approach was selected; one-group pre-test and post-test design was adopted. Sample size was 60 and the sample was married women in selected hospital, Bangalore. Structured knowledge questionnaire was used to collect data from the participants. Data were analysed by both descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The pre-test mean knowledge score was 31.57% and the post-test mean knowledge score was 63.9%. The paired t-test value between pre-test and post-test was 29.39%*, which is statistically significant at 0.05 level degree of freedom. The study reveals that there is a significant association between the age of menarche and certain demographic variables such as age, educational qualification, occupation, monthly family income, family history of endometriosis, previous knowledge about endometriosis and source of information. Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted. Conclusion: The study result showed that there is increase in the knowledge level after administration information booklet on knowledge regarding endometriosis treatment. Thus information booklet is effective in increasing the knowledge level of married women regarding endometriosis treatment.
