A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Organ Donation among Adults in Rural Area of Goindwal Sahib District Tarn-Taran, Punjab (2017) in View to Develop Information Booklet

Abstract


An organ is defined as a unit in the body with a special function, usually constructed from several different types of tissue. A human being only has one of some organs, and the organ’s function can be crucial to maintaining life. Organ donation is the donation of biological tissue or an organ of the human body from a dead or living person to a living recipient in order to save the life of the recipient. A living person can donate organ after natural death or after brain death. After natural death only few tissues only can be donated like cornea, bone, skin, blood vessels, were as after brain death almost 37 different body organs can be donated including critical organs. A Descriptive Study to assess the Knowledge and Attitude regarding organ Donation among Adults in rural area of Goindwal Sahib District Tarn-Taran, Punjab (2017) in view to develop information booklet. Aim of Study: The aim of study was to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding organ donation and provide them information booklet so that they can aware and get motivated towards organ donation. The sample size was 100 selected from the rural areas, Tarn-Taran. The tool used for the data collection was self structured knowledge questionnaire and attitude scale. The non-probability convenience sampling technique was used to select the subjects. It can be seen from the result that the overall mean knowledge score 9.82 with SD 1.32. Recommendations of the Study: Recommendations of the study were a similar study can be undertaken on large sample for better generalization by adopting an experimental design to improve knowledge regarding organ donation among adults.
