Pyopericardium

Kripa Angeline A

Abstract

Pyopericardium is an infrequent condition with a high mortality rate in which infection grow in the pericardial space, leading to a pus-filled pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade, which can reason cardiogenic shock and death. The pyopericardium was examined when ST elevation was appearing on an ECG and an ECHO discovered a large pericardial effusion reasoning tamponade. An emergency pericardiocentesis drained frank pus. Treatment with intravenous antibiotics, repeated pericardial drainage and a pericardiectomy show to an excellent result, and a full recovery.
