Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding First Aid for Burns and its Prevention in Selected Hospital, Mahasamund, (C.G.)

Abstract


This study is to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching program on knowledge regarding first aid for burns and its prevention in selected district hospital Mahasamund. A non-experimental study using one-group pretest–posttest method was conducted. A sample size of 20 burn patients with convenience sample technique is used, and the subjects meeting the inclusion criteria were selected for the study. Data collection was done using structured questionnaires on burns including socio-demographic variables, the first pretest was performed and then after structured teaching program, posttest was done. The result shows that majority of the samples 50%were having inadequate knowledge in the pretest, whereas in the posttest, majority 60% of them were having adequate knowledge regarding burns. In pretest, the mean level knowledge is 5.5 SD, 3.32 with a mean percentage of 27.5. Whereas in the posttest, the mean level of knowledge is10%SD, 3.35 with a mean percentage of 50%, and hence a significance was found between pretest and posttest knowledge scores of the patients regarding the burns.
