A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge and Practice of Diabetic Diet Among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Selected Hospital, Tumkur

Abstract


Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseasesdescribed by hyperglycaemic resulting from defected insulin secretion, insulin action or both on the basis of the irregularity in carbohydrates, protein, and fat metabolism. Hypotheses are as follows: H1: There is a significant relationship between knowledge and practice of diabetic diet among patients with diabetes mellitus. H2: There is a significant improvement in the knowledge and practices of diabetes patients with diabetes diet after the structured teaching programme.H3:There is a significant association between knowledge and practice of diabetes patients with diabetes diet and selected demographic variables. Result: Overall mean knowledge score in the pre-test is 36.4% with the standard deviation of 3.004. Overall mean knowledge score in the post-test is 68.5% with the standard deviation of 3.132.Overall mean practice score in the post-test is 67.15% with the standard deviation of 5.173.Overall mean practice score in the pre-test is 40.10% with the standard deviation of 5.274.
