Abstract

The lining of the stomach bleeds and it look like stripes of a watermelon in endoscopy is called watermelon stomach or GAVE. Common in both men and women of all age. Most commonly observed in old women over age of 70 years. It is associated with autoimmune disease, Raynaud’s phenomenon, Sclerodactyly, etc. It is treated with Hormonal therapy—estrogen-progesterone, Octreotide, a long-acting somatostatin analogue, Intravenous infusion of methylprednisolone. Antrectomy is the surgical procedure done. Endoscopic procedure such as laser photoablation by Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC) is done which has the same effect as surgery.
