Correlation between Maternal Weight Gain and Birth Weight among Primigravid and Multigravid Mothers

Abstract


Pregnancy is a very exciting time and rewarding experience for every woman. Weight gain is the most important sign that a newborn is healthy when it is seeing a new world for their better survival. The objectives of the study were to assess the maternal weight gain and birth weight, to correlate the maternal weight gain to birth weight, to associate the birth weight with selected demographic variables. Quantitative approach and correlational design were used for the study. Convenient sampling technique was used to select the 300 samples. The results depict that mean of total maternal weight gain was 10.695 whereas mean of total birth weight was 2.91 with the r=0.545(p=0.000). There was some positive correlation exists between maternal weight gain to birth weight. The result shows some positive correlation exists between maternal weight gain and birth weight respectively. Hence, the researcher concluded that there was some correlation exists between maternal weight gain to birth weight.
