A Pre-Experimental Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme on Knowledge regarding Polycystic Ovarian Disease among Women of Age Group 18–35 years in Selected Areas of District Sangrur, Punjab

Abstract


POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN DISEASE is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. Women with PCOD may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels. The ovaries develop numerous fluid filled follicles and fail to release eggs regularly. The research project was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding polycystic ovarian disease among women of age group 1835 years in selected areas of district Sangrur, Punjab. The conceptual framework adopted for the study was Lodwig Von Bertalanffy model (1968). General system theory was used. Quantitative research approach and pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test design was adopted. A sample size of 60 working women of age group 1835 years from area Bhawanigarh of district Sangrur was selected, using non-probability convenient sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire was administered to assess the knowledge regarding Polycystic ovarian disease as pre-test, followed by administration of planned teaching programme and post-test assessment. The gathered data was analyzed by calculating frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi square, paired t-test was used to find the association between pre-test knowledge scores regarding polycystic ovarian disease among women of age group 1835 years with their selected socio-demographic variables. The mean post-test knowledge score (20.92±4.90) was higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (10.27±3.40) regarding polycystic ovarian disease among women, which establishes the effectiveness of planned teaching programme.
