Abstract

Médecins Sans Frontières recently released a comprehensive report on mental health in Kashmir: it concluded that half of all residents of the valley have "mental health problems". The report found that nearly 1.8 million adults (45%) of Kashmir's adult population—suffer from some form of mental distress. A majority (93%) have experienced conflict-related trauma. An average adult was found to have witnessed around eight traumatic events during his or her lifetime. More than 70% of adults have experienced or witnessed the sudden or violent death of someone they knew. According to the report, 50% of women and 37% of men are likely to suffer from depression; 36% of women and 21% of men have a probable anxiety disorder; and 22% of women and 18% of men suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Noorul Amin, Nursing Officer, Department of Nursing Administration, Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar Jammu and Kashmir

Mr. Noorul Amin is presently working as Nursing officer in Emergency Operation theatre,Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care,Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences,Soura Srinagar Jammu and Kashmir. He has worked as Consultant [Quality assessor] with City and Guilds Manipal Global.He has earned his B.Sc Honours Nursing from kashmir University and has secured first rank in the examinations. Besides He has completed his M.Sc Counselling & Family therapy via IGNOU and has specialisation in drug abuse counselling and family therapy. He has completed his Nursing Internship from King Fahad Medical City,Riyadh Saudi Arabia in 2013. He is also a Member of Association of Indian School Counsellors and Allied Professionals since December 2017. He is in the field of Nursing from last 4 years and research being his passion. He has 3 paper publications (original research) in international Journal of Indian Psychology and one in Indian Journal of Advanced Nursing. He is Currently working on 2 more projects. His area of interest is Mental health, Substance abuse, Mental health Disorders, Child and Adolescent Health Problems, Family, Marital and Couple Conflicts, Emergency care and Management of patients admitted in emergency department, Nursing care in Emergency Operation rooms and nursing research of any any nature.
