EFFECTIVENESS OF SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL MODULE ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING FIRST AID FOR COMMON INJURIES IN CHILDREN AMONG SCHOOL TEACHERS

The present pre-experimental study aimed to find out the effectiveness of a self-instructional module (SIM) regarding first aid for common injuries in children among school teachers, Bangalore, Karnataka. The study included 60 conveniently selected school teachers who were from Delhi Public School and Indian Academy Public School in Bangalore, who completed a semi-structured questionnaire on knowledge regarding first aid. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation, chi-square values, and the paired t test. The result of this study showed that in pre-test majority of the school teachers (93.33%) had inadequate level of knowledge and after the administration of SIM, the knowledge level of the school teachers significantly improved. The calculated ‘t’ test value was 35.00 which was highly significant at the level of 0.05 which indicated that the SIM was highly effective in improving the knowledge level of the school teachers regarding First aid. The study also found association of knowledge with age, type of family, year of experience, previous exposure to the topic and training. The data suggests the need for in-service education regarding First aid among school teachers, as most of the knowledge on the topic will be robust.
