Stress and coping among post Myocardial Infarction survivors

Abstract


A non-experimental descriptive exploratory research design was used for the study. 30 post MI survivors were selected for the study by using non-probability purposive sampling technique. The data had collected using socio-demographic Performa, standardized stress scale and structured coping strategy scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Results and conclusion: 63.3% of post myocardial infarction survivors having fairly often stress level,33.3% having stress sometimes,3.4% have stress very often.it reveals that fairly often patients were having stress.86.66% having average and 6.67% shows both poor and adequate level of coping strategies. There is a significant association between level of stress among post MI survivors in relation to selected demographic variables such as residence, worry about reoccurrence of myocardial infarction, afraid of death and worry about financial loss (P value <0.05). There is a significant association between levels of coping behavior among post MI survivors in relation to selected socio-demographic variables such as residence and history of Myocardial Infarction (P value<0.05). There is a significant correlation between level of coping behavior in relation to level of stress among post MI survivors (P value<0.05).
