Knowledge Regarding Early Symptoms and Management of Myocardial Infarction among High-Risk Clients

Abstract


The present study was aimed to assess the knowledge regarding early symptoms and management of myocardial infarction among high -risk clients attending outpatient departments of a selected hospital at, Alappuzha District. The objectives of the present study were to assess the level of knowledge regarding the early symptoms and management of myocardial infarction among high -risk clients and to find out the association between the level of knowledge regarding the early symptoms and management of myocardial infarction among high -risk clients and selected socio-demographic variables. The study is based on the health belief model. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The sample size was 30 high -risk clients in the age group of 40-60 years attending medical outpatient departments of selected hospital, Alappuzha, which was selected by convenience sampling technique. The tools used were structured questionnaire to collect the socio- demographic data and structured knowledge questionnaire to assess the level of knowledge regarding early symptoms and management of myocardial infarction among high- risk clients. The findings revealed that 16.7% of high- risk clients have poor knowledge , 73.3% have average knowledge and 6.7% have good knowledge regarding early symptoms and management of myocardial infarction, and there is no significant association of the knowledge score with age , gender, education, occupation, monthly income, duration of illness, habits, and lifestyle at 0.05 level of significance.
