Effects of Mindfulness Meditation Therapy on Stress and Emotional Intelligence in Selected Nursing Colleges in Punjab among Nursing Students

Abstract


Nursing students experience stress throughout their professional careers due to a variety of pressures, which can cause psychological anguish, health issues, and behavioural issues, all of which contribute to subpar academic performance. Students studying nursing are important human resources. It is essential to identify stress in nursing students since stress can result in decreased productivity, decreased quality of life, and suicidal thoughts. Emotional intelligence (EI) is defined as the capacity to experience emotions, access and produce emotions to support thought, comprehend emotions and emotional knowledge, and control emotions in a thoughtful manner to foster both emotional and intellectual development. Mindfulness meditation therapy, a mental activity known as meditation teaches you to calm your body and mind, let go of negativity, and slow your rushing thoughts. Combining mindfulness with meditation refers to a mental state in which one is totally focused on "the now", rather than on the past or the future, in order to be able to observe and accept thoughts, feelings, and sensations without condemnation. Effect of mindfulness meditation therapy on stress and emotional intelligence among nursing students at selected nursing college Punjab was the study's main objective.
