Hospital Emergency Color Codes: A Way to Disseminate Unexpected

Mamta Choudhary, Nancy Kurien

Abstract

Hospital emergency codes are medical emergency codes used in a hospital. It is a way to disseminate essential life-saving information quickly to the hospital staff. The message is in coded language so that panic among visitors or other patients in hospital can be avoided. For example, code blue means cardiac emergency. The goal of these codes is to provide precise emergency notification to staff, which is then immediately followed by a co-ordinated response. Training and mock drill are conducted to avoid misunderstanding among staff. Emergency codes are not standardized, and it varies from one hospital to another.
