A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STRUCTURE TEACHING PROGRAM (STP) ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING PREVENTION OF VIRAL HEPATITIS AMONG ADOLESCENCE AT SELECTED SCHOOL OF DEHRI – ON - SONE

Abstract


Hepatitis is a widespread inflammation of the liver that results in degeneration and necrosis of liver cells. A gradual increase in the statistics proved that hepatitis is recently widespread disease and may attack higher count of population. Viral hepatitis produces a worldwide well-being implication with remarkable incidence and death from both acute and persistent complications. A study was done to evaluate the effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program on Knowledge Regarding Prevention of Viral Hepatitis among adolescence at selected School of Dehri-On-Sone. Pre-experimental one group pretest posttest design was used for this study. 100 students were selected through Non- Probability Quota Sampling Technique. Pretest score on knowledge were assessed by using Structured Questions. Pre-test was conducted and intervention was given on the same day. Post-test assessment was done on the 7th day by using self structured questionnaire.

The findings revealed that among 100 adolescence, 67 (67.0 %) were in the age group of 13-14, 30 ( 30.0 %) adolescence age group of 15-16, 3( 3 % ) adolescence age group of 17-18, 0% adolescence in age 19.59 (59%) are males and 41 (41%) are females, According to educational status of father, 20 (20%)  are from no formal education, 40 (40%) are from Higher secondary education, 15 (15%) are from senior secondary education, 25 (25%) are from diploma/graduate, According to educational status of mother, 18 (18%) are from no formal education, 46(46%) are from Higher secondary education, 17 (17%) are from senior secondary education, 19(19%) are from diploma/graduate, 35(35%) are belong to rural area and 65(65%) are belong to urban area, According to student studying in class 50(50%) are from 8th class, 40 (40%) are from 9th class and 10 (10%) from class 10th, 78 (78%) are Hindu, 15(15%) are Muslim, 5(5%) adolescence are Sikh, 2 (2%) are Christians, 42(42%) are living with nuclear family, 55(55%) are living with joint family and 3 (3%) are living with extended family, 23 (23%) are from below 10,000, 41 (41%) are from 10,000 -30,000, 19 (19%) are from 31,000-50,000 and 17 (17%) are from Above 50,000. In the pretest 42 (42.0%) adolescence had poor knowledge and in the posttest 55(55.0%) adolescence had good knowledge regarding prevention of viral hepatitis.

The present study finding reveals that there was a significant association between the pre-test and post test score on knowledge regarding prevention of viral hepatitis among adolescence chi square value is-70.35 and p value is 0.0001.
