A Quasi Experimental Study to Assess the Knowledge Regarding Contraceptive Methods Through Structured Teaching Programme Among the Female Students Selected Degree College Jandiala Guru, Amritsar

Abstract


Aim: The aim of study to assess the knowledge regarding contraceptive methods among the female students. Background: In India every 1.25 second birth is occurred, couple protection rate is still only 41.5%.785% of pregnancies in India are unplanned and at least 25% are unwanted. The national family welfare program was initiated in India 1952 and expanded with increasing effort and input in successive plans. The crude birth is still 27.2 per 1000 population with the growth rate of 2.14 which is still very high.to keep net reproduction rate (NRR) of unity, which is the country long term goal for replacement fertility by 2000–2016. IT is estimated that only 46% married women using contraceptive method 6% only are using spacing methods.
The most popular method of contraception is sterilization which is used by 67% of current contraceptive users. Although, couple protection rate has increased by 12% in 2005, 17% in 2007 and 57% in 2012. It would be necessary to provide effective contraceptive coverage to about 75% of couples special attention is being given to younger population.
Design: It is a set of logical steps to taken by the researcher to assess the research problem. In this study Research design adopted one group pre- and posttest.
Setting: Research setting to area where the study conducted. The present study was conduct at Sri Ragunath College of girl’s Jandiala Guru. A population comprises of entire set of individuals having some common characteristics referred to as universe. The target population is 60 female students at Sri Ragunath College of girls Jandiala guru.
Method: Purposive sampling technique was followed in this study structured questionnaire was used to assess the level of knowledge of the students. The study conducted in the month of April 2016.
Result: Among the pretest students, majority experiment group is 54(90%) had inadequate knowledge, 6(10%) had moderate knowledge and 0 (0%) had adequate knowledge. Among the posttest students majority in experimental group is 32(53.33%) had moderate knowledge, 17(28.33%) had adequate knowledge and 11(18.33%) had inadequate knowledge.
Conclusion: Study finding revealed that in pretest majority (90%) having inadequate knowledge, followed by (10%) moderate knowledge. In the posttest majority (53.33%) sample have in moderate knowledge, (28.33%) have in adequate and (18.33%) in inadequate knowledge.
