Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global public health threat and has evolved to become a pandemic crisis around the world. A non-experimental study was conducted to assess the knowledge regarding COVID-19 among undergraduate nursing students in a selected college at Ernakulam district. Using convenience sampling technique, 60 students were selected. Data collection was done using a questionnaire consisting of socio-demographic variables and knowledge regarding COVID-19. The study revealed that most of the sample (68%) belongs to the age group of 18 years; among them 98% were females. It is observed that all of the samples have heard about COVID-19 and their source of information was TV (17%), newspaper (18%), social media (23%), and (42%) from all of the above. 5% of the samples were been affected with COVID-19 and majority (95%) were unaffected. Majority (80%) of the subjects does not have any suspected cases in the family and 18% had suspected cases in the family. Out of 60 subjects, 55% were having average knowledge regarding COVID-19, whereas 43% were having good knowledge and 2% had below average knowledge regarding COVID-19. There is significant association between knowledge and age of samples.
