Cold Abscess: A Clinical Case Presentation and Management Approach

M. Manimehalai

Abstract

The term cold abscess refers to an abscess (an abscess is a collection of liquefied tissue (pus) in the body) where typical signs of abscess (warmth, redness, tenderness), are absent. Cold abscesses are defined as having no associated erythema, heat, or tenderness., which are usually found with the pyogenic abscess. They may be present in immunodeficiency disorders, deep mycoses, and other infectious diseases like tuberculosis (TB). The chest wall is a rare involvement localization of TB, though uncommon frequently seen in countries endemic to the disease. I herein report an extremely rare case of non-tuberculosis cold abscess. In this report, a cold abscess case with chest wall involvement is presented. This male came to the hospital with a history of swelling in the left chest wall and was diagnosed with a cold abscess. He underwent surgery and received post-operative treatment for one week. After the treatment, he got discharged from the hospital.
