Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge and Attitude Regarding COVID-19 Vaccination among Parents of Nursing Students in PIMS

Abstract

Corona virus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious life-threatening disease that has spreads rapidly throughout the world. Before the emergence of COVID-19, vaccines for infectious diseases typically took several years to develop, and there was no existing vaccine for preventing human coronavirus infections. In this study, an evaluative approach was employed, and the chosen research design was a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The study was conducted through online mode after selecting samples by convenience sampling. The study used google forms. 20 (36.4%) were in the age group of 40–45 years, 32 (58.25%) were male, 17 (30.9%) were daily wagers and 47 (85.5%) were not infected by COVID-19 and television was the major source of information 47 (85.5%). In pre-test it was found that 2 participants (3.6%) had inadequate knowledge, 20 participants (36.4%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 33 participants (60.0%) had adequate knowledge towards COVID-19 vaccination. It was also found that pre-test 54 participants (98.2%) had favourable attitude and 1 participant (1.8%) had unfavourable attitude towards COVID-19 vaccination. The study's findings indicate a notable enhancement in the knowledge and attitude of parents following a well-structured teaching program. Hence STP is an effective, appropriate and feasible mode to develop knowledge and attitude of parents about COVID-19 vaccination.
