Abnormal Immune Response; Autoimmune Diseases: A Critical Review

ananda nagappa kudari

Abstract

The immune system is a complex organization within the body that is designed normally to “seek and destroy” invaders of the body, including infectious agents. There are at least 80 types of autoimmune diseases. When you have an autoimmune disorder, your immune system does not distinguish between healthy tissue and antigens. As a result, the body sets off a reaction that destroys normal tissues too. Immune deficiency diseases decrease the body's ability to fight invaders, causing vulnerability to infections. Since autoimmune diseases can affect multiple organs and produce highly variable signs and symptoms that can change in severity over time, the recognition and diagnosis of autoimmune diseases can be difficult. Treatment for autoimmune diseases are NSAIDS, corticosteroids, anti-cytokine therapy, co-stimulation inhibition, biological inhibitors of T cell function, Stem cell transplantation and many more.
