A Study To Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Structured Teaching Programme On Knowledge Regarding Menstrual Hygiene Among Adolescent Girls

Abstract


A study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Structured Teaching ProgrammeOn Knowledge Regarding Menstrual Hygiene Among Adolescent Girls Studying In Selected School At Aurangabad”
Objectives Of The Study
• To assess the pre-test knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls studying in selected school at Aurangabad.
• To administer the structured teaching programme regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls.
• To assess the post-test knowledge among adolescent girls regarding menstrual hygiene.
• To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene.
• To find out the association between the pre-test knowledge score with selected demographic variables.
Methods:
An evaluative study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls. Convenient sampling technique was used for a sample of 60 adolescent girls from DnyanaAnkurVidyaMandir School, Aurangabad. The conceptual framework used for the study was based on modified open system theory.
Result:
It was revealed that in pre test 11(18.33%) girls had poor knowledge, 37(61.66%) of them had average knowledge and 12 (20%) of them had good knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene.
It was revealed that in post test 7(11.66%) participants had poor knowledge, 43(71.66%) participants had average knowledge and 10 (16.66%) participants had good knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene
Study proved that the mean score of post test knowledge 18.76 was apparently higher than the mean score of pretest knowledge 12.45. The mean difference 6.31 between pretest and post test knowledge score of students was found to be significant, paired t test knowledge score is Paired t test = 8.80*p<0.05 is significant at 0.05 level. Hence research hypothesis H1 was accepted.This indicates that STP was effective in increasing the knowledge of adolescent girls regarding menstrual hygiene.
Interpretation and conclusion:
The findings of the study supported that effectiveness of STP in increasing the knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls.
