Abstract

Quantitative non-experimental descriptive exploratory research design is used for this study. Thirty samples from Almas Hospital, Kottakkal Kerala, India, were selected by non-probability purposive sampling technique. Socio-demographic data were assessed using structured questionnaire and observational check list. Data were analyzed and interpreted by descriptive and inferential statistics. Data collection tools were structured questionnaire and observational checklist. Results and Conclusion: The analysis revealed that a majority of the staff nurses have good knowledge but have average practices. There is a significant association between practice regarding infection control and standard precaution among staff nurses in critical care unit with selected socio-demographic variables such as religion and professional qualification (P < 0.05). There is no significant association between knowledge regarding infection control and standard precaution with selected socio-demographic variables such as age, marital status, number of children, religion, long-term residence, professional qualification, year of experience, workshops attended related critical care unit and previous training regarding biomedical waste management (P > 0.05).
