Iranian medical students' knowledge about in hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Abstract


Background: Information about medical student’s knowledge about cardiopulmonary resuscitation could be useful for preparing educational programs. However, little is known about Iranian medical students’ knowledge on cardiopulmonary resuscitation. So, the current study was conducted. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted in a medical school affiliated to Qazvin University of Medical Sciences. All students who passed one clinical term were invited to participate in our study. Students’ knowledge was measured using self-report questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by using SPSS 23 software. Results: Of 127 students, 79 students (62.2%) were female. The mean age of students was 23.1 years. Most of them reported that they have experience of cardiopulmonary resuscitation workshop (84 students). Totally, 7.9%, 63% and 29.1% of students have low, moderate and high levels of knowledge about cardiopulmonary resuscitation, respectively. The mean score of students’ knowledge about cardiopulmonary resuscitation has positive and significant relationship with their academic grade point average (r= 0.17, p= 0.04). Conclusion: The finding of the present study revealed that medical students need more education about cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Adding educational session about cardiopulmonary resuscitation to medical student’s curriculum is necessary.
