Significance of Zinc in Human Body and Treatment Modalities: An Integrative Review

Rinu J. George

Abstract

Zinc is a nutrient that plays many vital roles in our body. Human body does not produce zinc naturally so it should be obtained through food or supplements. Zinc is one of the most abundant trace minerals in the human body, with 1.5–2.5 g of zinc present in the average adult. Zinc participates in cell division process, growth, electrolyte absorption in the intestine, transmission of nerve impulse, immune response, enzymatic catalysis or stabilization, and gene-regulatory proteins. So, to study and understand zinc will be much useful in health and health care setups.
