Quality of Life among Subjects Undergoing Peritoneal Dialysis
Abstract
The increasing global epidemic of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) continues to be a serious challenge for many developing countries. The quality of life among subjects requiring dialysis is affected radically. Not only that, but it also affects greatly other dimensions of health. Peritoneal dialysis is not a cure for CKD but helps to prolong and improve the subject’s QOL. Moreover, gaining knowledge on renal diseases and their treatment would increase the life expectancy and their QOL also. A study was conducted to explore the quality of life among patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. Methods and materials: A descriptive study was conducted among patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis in a selected hospital at Puducherry. A total of 30 subjects were selected. The quantitative research approach was used for this study. The standardized questionnaire was used in the study. Results: The major findings of the study revealed that 26% had a moderate quality of life, 4% had poor quality of life, and none of the subjects had a good quality of life. Conclusion: The study revealed that most of the subjects had a moderate and poor quality of life. So, there is a need for the health care system to develop appropriate evidence-based practice guidelines
