Abstract

The human digestive system composed of gastrointestinal tract with the accessory organs of digestion (the tongue, salivary glands, pancreas, liver, and gallbladder). In this digestion of food takes place in different stages starting from chewing of food till its digestion. As stomach plays a major organ of gastrointestinal tract and also for digestive system. The shape of stomach is J-shape which is joined to the esophagus at its upper end and to the duodenum at its lower end. The length of stomach remains at about 25 cm (10 inch). The stomach has four regions. The cardiac region which is near the heart surround the lower esophageal sphincter where food enters the stomach. The body region which comes next, is the main part of the stomach. The pyloric region the duodenum. Gastric disorder is a medical condition which is common in India. The incidence of gastritis is in India was approximately 3 in 869 that was a bout 12,25,614 people was suffering from gastritis out of total 1,06,50,70,607 of populations. There was a decreasing of gastritis in the developed countries but increased in in developing countries. The ratio of gastritis in male and female were approximately the same that is 1:1. Children aged 2 to 8 and adolescent aged 12–17 in the developing nations acquire the infection at a rate of 10% per years; the rate of yearly infection is less than 1%. Gastritis is caused by bacterial invasion in 9 out of 10 population cases by the H. pylori bacteria. The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching progamme regarding knowledge on home remedies regarding gastritis among patients in Globus hospital Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The research design which was adopted for further study was pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test. The 60 patients were selected by non-probability convenience sampling technique. The findings show that pre-test score of 60 subjects only ten had poor knowledge, 36 subjects had average knowledge and 14 subjects had good knowledge on home remedies of gastritis. After planned teaching programme post-test score there were no subjects with poor knowledge majority of subjects 32 had good knowledge and only 28 had average knowledge. The mean post-test knowledge score was 15.66 which is higher than the mean pre-test score 1.33. These scores denote that the planned teaching programme was effective. This states that the research null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. The significant difference between two tests were tested by using paired ‘t’ test level of significance was set at 0.05 percent level. The computed ‘t’ value 8.64 and ‘p’ value .0001 (p<0.05) indicated that there was a significant difference between pretest and post-test knowledge score. Thus, it is depicted that the planned teaching programme was effective in increasing the knowledge of subjects
