Abstract

Introduction: COVID 19 outbreak created apprehension and anxiety across the world because of the unpredicted and unexplained health consequences. There was a lot of scientific discussion happening among medical experts regarding the usage of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) as a prophylactic drug.

Methods: A cross sectional online survey was conducted among 180 Health Care Workers (HCWs) at Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi, from April 2020 to May 2020 adopting a convenient sampling technique. Researcher developed five 5-point attitude scale was used which also included the demographic details of the subjects. The aim was to find the attitude of health care workers including nurses, doctors and paramedical staff.

Results: 79.9% subjects took Hydroxychloroquine for prophylaxis voluntarily. Majority of the participants were nurses (85.2%) with a female preponderance. The study revealed that majority (82.7%) had neutral attitude towards the usage.

Conclusion: HCQ is still being used as a prophylactic drug preventing the contractility of COVID 19 outbreak along with other standard precaution. There is a lack of conclusive evidence regarding the usage of HCQ as a prophylactic drug in the prophylaxis treatment of COVID 19 infection.
