A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMME ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING MULTI DRUG RESISTANCE TUBERCULOSIS AMONG STAFF NURSES AT TERTIARY LEVEL TEACHING HOSPITAL DHARWAD”

Abstract


Research design: A quantitative research approach with pre-experimental one group pre-test, post-test design was adopted in this study.

Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programme on knowledge regarding multi drug resistance tuberculosis among staff nurses at tertiary level teaching hospital, Dharwad.  

Sample and sampling technique: A total of 30 staff nurses were selected by non – probability purposive sampling technique.

Data Collection: The tool used for data collection was structured knowledge questionnaires, deals with knowledge on multi drug resistant tuberculosis.

Data analysis: Collected data was analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics in terms of frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation and “t test”

Results: The study finding on pre- test knowledge score was 86.66% (26) of the staff nurses had average knowledge, 10% (03) had good knowledge, and 3.33% (1) had poor knowledge. In post-test knowledge score 100% (30) of staff nurses had good knowledge and none of them had poor and average knowledge. Comparison of pre and post-test results revealed that the mean pre-test score was 15.56 and SD was 3.89 whereas the mean post test score was 26.6 and SD 1.64. The calculated t value (5.09) was higher than the table value (2.05) which was highly significant at the 0.05 level of significance. Hence the null hypothesis was rejected, and research hypothesis was accepted.

Conclusion: This result clearly indicated that Instructional teaching program was effective in enhancing the knowledge of staff nurses regarding Multi drug resistant tuberculosis.
