Do We Need Obama Care-Like Health Care

Parimala K. Samuel

Abstract

India is a developing nation and it is advancing rapidly in medical sciences and technology, when it comes to public health care scenario, India lags far behind developed nations in the public health arena. The article in Forbes says that with drinking water, adequate nutrition, sanitation and access to health care being longstanding challenges. The high rise of advanced technology involved in the diagnostic procedure, in the Medicare both invasive and non-invasive added to it the high quality manpower make the care unaffordable to every citizen of India. Though we have growing number of private hospitals with better medical facilities most of them are too expensive for an average citizen. In reality how many can avail this? Majority of the citizens are denied proper care because of cost affordability. If we have to look at the statistics of Road Traffic Injuries/Death (RTI)according to WHO it is the 6th leading cause of death in India with greater share of hospitalization, death, disability and socio economic losses in the young and middle aged population.
