A study to assess the effectiveness of psycho education on stress and management of coping strategies among geriatrics admitted in ICF hospital

Abstract


Objective: The objective of the study were to determine the stress and coping skills and the effectiveness of psycho education about stress management and coping skills among Geriatrics.Method: Pre experimental design, pre and post one group method was adopted in this study. The study was conducted at ICF hospital. Sample size was consists of 30 geriatrics who were admitted in ICF hospital. Non probability purposive sampling was used. Self coping and management skill scale was used for data collection. SPSS software version was used for data analysis. Result: The pre test mean score was 81 with the mean standard deviation of pre test 11.069 and post test 24.47 the projected t value is 1.699 which proves that there was statistical significant difference during the post test at the level of P< 0.05 this shows that there was increase in the coping skill & reduction of stress level after received psycho education among geriatrics in ICF Hospital in villivakkam. Conclusion: Nurses help the old people in their coping skills in different ways and this must follow a regular pattern. Educating them on their state of health, altering their understanding about the condition, giving them hope and teaching them how they can deal with the situation.
